The next article dealing with the New Tomorrowland of 1998 is going to be about the American Space Experience. Again, this article will be a pictorial article, as Yesterland has a wonderful article up dealing with the history of this exhibit!

There’s not much to be said or shown about the American Space Experience, but there still are a few pictures to share! Let’s get to it:

The exhibit’s marque

A look at a few of the exhibits in the “experience”

The American Space Experience is now the Fastpass Distribution area for Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters

And surprisingly or not, that’s all for this pictorial! Tomorrow, a look at the 1998 mural that was above the entrance to the American Space Experience!

The Road to No-Where!
Luke Manning | Disneyland | 6:31 pm PST

Our first article dealing with the New Tomorrowland of 1998 is going to be about the Rocket Rods. This article is going to be a pictorial article, as Yesterland already has a wonderful article up dealing with the attraction.

Now, let’s get to it:

The entrance to the Rocket Rods

The other side of the entrance didn’t receive the logo due to budget issues… Big surprise!

The queue featured a re-painted, neon version of the Mark III Monorail…

… As well as a neon PeopleMover vehicle

The loading & blast off area, as well as the Observatron

The attraction vehicle… Very weird in my opinion!

The only vehicle that had neon features added to it

The Rocket Rods closed in April 2001

Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters replaced at the Rocket Rods queue building in 2005… The track is empty

Tomorrow, a look at the American Space Experience!

The Future Has Arrived
Luke Manning | Disneyland, Website News | 7:28 pm PST

Exactly 10 years ago today, the New Tomorrowland of 1998 officially opened to the public. While it’s not one of the best times in Disneyland’s history, it is a moment I’d like to look at. So we will be celebrating it in various ways for the next week.

Each day, a special article of sorts will be put up taking a look at each of the various attractions part of this re-do (the first one will be up tomorrow). And on this week’s edition of the Disneyland News Today Podcast, we’ll have a special audio tribute segment, featuring music from Rocket Rods, Space Mountain, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, & more!

So stay tuned, & remember… “BEYOND THE GREATEST STAR OF ALL LIES OUR FUTURE!”

Monorail Red Problems Continuing
Luke Manning | Disneyland | 4:17 pm PST

From the OC Register:

Disney’s first new monorail car in two decades — called the Monorail Red or Mark VII — is still being tested by Disney and no opening date has been announced.

Disney Spokesman John McClintock said today that the new train is still undergoing tests and adjustments. That includes the doors and air conditioning. He said both are working, but just not yet to Disney’s satisfaction.

McClintock said there is no date yet planned for the monorail’s public opening. When asked if the monorail might make it out for this Memorial Day weekend, he said that is “not at all likely.”

The Monorail Red’s biggest change is in looks: The first electric cars have blue glass and red stripes that change color in the sunlight. The next two cars will be blue with purple glass and orange with blue glass.

Bench seats will face the windows, allowing visitors a full view of the parks, Downtown Disney and the Disneyland Hotel. The capacity and speed will remain the same.

DLNT Episode 13 (5/18/08)
Luke Manning | Podcast | 4:34 pm PST

Join host Luke Manning and a cast including Lee Scott and Kenny Siegel, for a show that brings you the Ideals, Dreams, and Hard Facts of the Disneyland Resort. So sit back, relax, and enjoy all of the Disneyland news, information, and fun we have to offer on this edition of the Disneyland News Today Podcast!

Episode 13 starts off with our weekly Disneyland News and Rumors. Among the things covered this week are more problems involving the Pixar Play Parade, the Innoventions Dream Home, the Summer of Hidden Mysteries, and much more! Tackling the news with me this week are Kenny and Lee!

Coming to you live from the parks this week is Disneyland Park’s current, and only parade, Walt Disney’s Parade of Dreams. Headphones are suggested for the best listening experience.

Then instead of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, this week we bring you Kenny’s trip report to the Disneyland Resort! We tried out a different way of adding in background music during this segment, and it didn’t come out that good. It’s kinda loud (you can still hear us thankfully), and I couldn’t edit any long pauses out. But it’s still a very enjoyable segment, and I hope you enjoy it. I also want to thank Lee for helping out for half of the segment while I was temporarily disposed.

Finally, it’s a brand new segment, Autopia Talk. Basically every time I’m at Disneyland, I’ll ride the Autopia, talk to myself, and bring it to you on the podcast! I’d like to know what everyone thinks of Autopia Talk, so be sure to email me at wdwnewstoday@gmail.com. Headphones are suggested for the best listening experience.

If you would like to contact us with any questions, suggestions, comments, or concerns you can email us at wdwnewstoday@gmail.com or leave us a voicemail message at (206)-666-2982. Enjoy the show!!! See Ya Next Week!!!

Our sister site, WDW News Today, has an interesting rumor on how 2 films released this summer could involve 2 attractions across the country (although only 1 of them applies for Disneyland):

The next two weeks of business at your local box office may be determining the future of your favorite Disney Parks and your future vacations. Disney management will be closely watching the performance of two summer blockbusters over the next two weeks, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

For the Narnia series, everything is riding on this weekend and the latest film’s success. If the film doesn’t perform as well as the Walt Disney Company is hoping, we may have seen the last or next-to-last Narnia film. Whether or not that takes place, a decision will be made soon on the now-in-developement Narnia 3-D attraction being planned for Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s California Adventure. If the film shows strong results, then expect the new Narnia 3-D show to debut at both parks around Summer 2010.
