Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean “Redhead” Finds New Home at Walt Disney Archives

While Buzzy may still be M.I.A., another recently retired Audio-Animatronic has found a permanent home in The Walt Disney Archives.

The Archives revealed on social media that they have acquired the Redhead from Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean. The character was removed last year from both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom in a controversial re-imagining of the character and the ride’s auction scene. Previously,  the Redhead was the prized item at a wench auction. Now, the character, renamed Redd, is a pirate herself, taking on the role of auctioneer as she seeks to profit off the goods she’s plundered. Many fans decried the change as unnecessary, though others supported the character taking on a more empowered role in the ride. As of the writing of this article, the only park where the wench auction is still part of the ride is at Tokyo Disneyland.

Now the character will be preserved as a piece of Disney history, so that future generations may understand the evolution of the classic Disney Parks attraction.

    • Agreed!

Since Mr Depp will no longer be featured in any future Pirates movie? I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s taken out 👍

    • It’s definitely not cohesive …. and the portly wench has been turned into a matronly lass holding up hens (I won’t blame the plus size community for crying ‘fowl’ over this!) 😐

Now, a female pirate should’ve been introduced right where the town major is being dunked in the well (his wife in the window could’ve had a female pirate threatening her with a Cutlass to her throat vs continuously having the male Pirates take turns trying to shoot her with their pistols).
