The Disneyland Resort has launched another celebration, this one themed around love and Minnie Mouse. From January 22nd to mid February, guests can enjoy Valentine’s Month at Disneyland Resort by engaging in a new scavenger hunt and eating from a list of seasonal treats. If you enjoy a hearty entree followed by a rich dessert, then you will love the Southern Pork Belly Sliders and Chocolate Lava Cake at River Belle Terrace.
Southern Pork Belly Sliders -$19.00
This seasonal entree at River Belle Terrace was packed with flavor in every bite. The Southern Pork Belly Sliders are made of sticky sweet and fiery pork belly on toasted brioche buns, with fresh sliced jalapeños and house-made pickle chips.
The pork was a slightly chewy and on the fatty side, however the sweet and fiery flavor made up for this. Every bite was incredible and the buns were perfectly toasted. I think the sliced jalapeños are a unique touch, as they could have gone with a traditional coleslaw instead. Overall, the sliders were simple and tasty, and I wouldn’t mind eating these again.
However, the real star of this dish were the pickle chips and dipping sauce. The sauce was spicy, but it paired perfectly with the fried pickles. The only way I would improve this entree is to add more pickles to it! Other than that, everything had great flavor and was the perfect portion for one person to enjoy.
Chocolate Lava Cake – $10.00
If the sliders didn’t fill you up enough, this dessert will certainly do the trick.
This Chocolate Lava Cake is filled with warm, gooey chocolate in the center and topped with a white powdered sugar in the shape of Minnie Mouse. It’s paired with passion fruit sorbet and passion fruit sauce.
I loved the sorbet on it’s own, but I did not think it paired well with the lava cake. At first I didn’t really understand why this dish was prepared this way. However, as I kept eating the Chocolate Lava Cake, I began to understand that the sorbet is a nice way to refresh your palate after consuming the massive amounts of gooey chocolate. The lava cake is incredibly rich! It’s delicious, though, and you’re sure to find yourself eating it well after you are feeling stuffed.
