REVIEW: Potion Purple Holiday Cocktail and Berry Berry Purple Cobbler from Lamplight Lounge at Disney California Adventure

Lamplight Lounge in Disney California Adventure is offering two options for the Potion Purple food craze, although only one of them was announced. While only the Berry Berry Purple Cobbler has been officially announced, I figured there was no way that Lamplight Lounge wouldn’t be serving up a Potion Purple cocktail to go with it. Sure enough, I was correct!

Potion Purple Holiday Cocktail – $14.00

The Potion Purple Holiday Cocktail is rye whiskey, ginger simple syrup, Butterfly Pea Tea, a purple sugar rim, and a bit of lemon juice. The neatest part is that it actually changes color. Upon adding the lemon juice to the cocktail, it activates the color-changing properties of the Butterfly Pea Tea. The cocktail changes from a dark blueish purple to bright pinkish purple with the swirl of your straw!

The cocktail is refreshing and tasty. It’s not too sweet or too sour, despite the addition of lemon juice, and definitely tastes like whiskey. Non-whiskey drinkers lured in by the color-changing aspect probably won’t enjoy this drink, so make sure to bring a whiskey-loving friend. At $14, this cocktail is about on par with the price of other specialty cocktails at Lamplight Lounge.

Berry Berry Purple Cobbler – $12.00

Berry Berry Purple Cobbler – $12.00

The Berry Berry Purple Cobbler was delicious. $12 seems a bit steep for a dessert, but this one was definitely big enough to share. It comes served in a mini cast iron pan straight from the oven. Berry berry was a good description. If anything, it had too many berries and could have used a bit more of the batter to balance it out, but overall, it was great. The blueberry cream cheese ice cream largely fell victim to the cobbler and I had to remind myself that it wasn’t just vanilla. The flavor was just too muted when combined with the cobbler to stand out. One thing to note, when we visited, we were told that the cobbler was only available to those sitting upstairs in the bar, and not down in the restaurant. I’d advise checking with the host to confirm this before picking where you’d like to be seated.

All in all, Lamplight Lounge offers a couple of pretty solid options in terms or Potion Purple treats.
