The center icon of Disneyland, Sleeping Beauty Castle, is still very much under refurbishment. However, guests will be happy to hear that a peek at what is going on behind those Castle walls is finally being revealed.
Back in January, Disney provided details of the changes coming to Sleeping Beauty Castle, as well as what can be expected of Project Stardust. The goal of Project Stardust is to enhance areas throughout the Park to maximize guest comfort and access in preparation for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Part of these enhancements includes changing curbs to improve access with wheelchairs, strollers, and making sure people don’t fall off when it’s crowded.
These slower inclines were first added to Main Street, U.S.A. by Emporium and Disney Showcase. And now, we’re seeing enhancements to the curb in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
The curb in front of the Castle now slowly inclines down to meet the road along Main Street. The raised curb has disappeared entirely in this section to the right, and we expect something similar may be taking place on the left side. New brickwork has been added, too, matching the new brickwork added outside of Emporium and Disney Showcase. The addition of a newly planted tree ties in with the new brick, giving this area a familiar but fresh look.
Sleeping Beauty Castle has been under refurbishment for almost three months now. And guests, including us, have been anxious for the return of this beloved Park icon. With this new reveal, we’re hoping the rest isn’t too far behind.

De-curbing isn’t an “enhancement”. It’s a detraction. It makes the place feel less authentic, as actual streets have curbs. Look at Magic Kingdom’s curbless hub. It sucks compared to the old hub. I’d prefer you call these Stardust alterations, “changes” and not “enhancements.” Removing trees, planters and curbs are certainly not improvements in everyone’s eyes.
If you’re trying to get around Disneyland, it certainly is. The park has been overcrowded for years, it will only be worse come May.
It’s about safety.
