REVIEW: New Power Stone Churro Lacks Cosmic Power at Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure

A new specialty churro has been snapped into existence at Disney California Adventure. The Power Stone Churro, which first made an appearance at Disneyland After Dark: Heroes Assemble, is available now at Churros at Hollywood Land. Does this specialty churro harness the cosmic power to top all other specialty churros? Unfortunately, the disappointment is inevitable.

This Infinity Stone-themed churro is covered in a heavy coating of blackberry-flavored sugar, icing, and purple rock candy. And it is by far one of the messiest churros I’ve eaten. It’s tied in messiness with the Chocolate Peanut Butter Churro from Food & Wine Festival earlier this year. No matter how hard you try, you can’t avoid getting the purple sugar everywhere. And yeah, it does stain your teeth, tongue, and hands.

From the second the Cast Member handed it to me, the icing started to drip. To be fair, she did give me a warning as she handed it over. And my warning to guests looking to buy this churro is to grab a handful of napkins prior to grabbing the churro from the Cast Member.

As far as the toppings, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the icing and rock candy. The blackberry flavor was very pronounced and the rock candy added a nice crunch to each bite. But the churro itself was very subpar. There was a chemical aftertaste with each bite. It was so awful that I didn’t care to finish the churro––and I strongly dislike wasting churros.

Perhaps I just got a bad churro or perhaps the flavor of the sugar is ruined by the food coloring. Either way, I wouldn’t want to try this one again. Even though I really did like the icing and rock candy, they weren’t worth the cost or the mess.

I’m sad to say we can add the Power Stone Churro to the long list of specialty churros that failed to impress. Perhaps it’s best that this churro is snapped back out of existence.
