June Gloom has finally ended in Southern California, and you would think crowds would be out en masse to enjoy the sun at Disneyland on a Saturday. However, as we have been noting since Galaxy’s Edge opening… where are the crowds?

Pixar Pal’s parking structure has officially opened and guests continue to be impressed with the new streamlined security and tram loading available.

Despite heading down the escalator with what felt like a crowd, everyone was quickly dispersed and loaded easily.

DL Entrance

Again, the main entrance plaza was empty and no more than a one to two deep to enter Disneyland Park.

Crowds

DL Crowd

The theme of the day seemed to be people walking through the park either coming or going into Galaxy’s Edge. The land was open the entire day and no boarding groups were needed.

As always, everyone does crowd around for their picture in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Adventureland Crowd

Adventureland had a 5-minute wait for Jungle Cruise, 20 minutes for Indiana Jones, and only a few waiting for their Dole Whips.

Mint Julep Line

We did find one line in New Orleans Square of guests waiting for a Mint Julep.

As the temperature was rising this seemed to be a mix of those heading to Galaxy’s Edge and Splash Mountain.

With hotter weather guests were being offered bags, which was a good sign we were going to get soaked.

We were able to snag a spot in the front and the higher water level was promising.

We left completely soaked, but cooled off. Do yourself a favor and grab a FastPass for a midday ride to cool off. Not to mention some great views of Galaxy’s Edge and the rest of the park.

Be sure to enjoy Hyperspace Mountain while it is available. Guests were loving the overlay.

Both the Columbia and Mark Twain were running today. Both seemed light on passengers.

There was also minimal wait for the Disneyland Railroad.

Food

Interior Plaza Inn

There was a some wait for fried chicken at Plaza Inn, but the chicken here is always worth a small wait.

Most opted to sit inside in the air conditioning, but the cool breeze was great as was the people watching.

Also be sure to take advantage of the walk up counter at Black Tap in Downtown Disney to get a to-go shake. This “Bam Bam” shake was terrific.

Upon returning to Mickey and Friends, the new space still makes everything feel significantly less crowded. Well done, Disney!

Thanks for joining us on a sunny afternoon at Disneyland Park. The crowds are tolerable for summer, rides are easy to hop on, and for now it seems that all can enter Galaxy’s Edge at their leisure. What are you looking forward to doing at Disneyland this summer?

  1. The most important thing to note about eating lunch at the Plaza Inn is that they are currently serving their scrumptious strawberry shortcake — just in the summer only (you can see someone with the shortcake on their plate in the photo above the chicken)! That shortcake is delicious, and it is worth a visit to Plaza Inn right now — even if you only get that item and don’t get a full meal! It’s only there for a limited time, and when they put it out at the restaurant it is snapped up very quickly, so timing is important!
