Recently, it was noticed that RFID readers were added to the inside of the elevators at the Grand Californian in Disneyland. Contrary to reports, these readers are not a sign that MagicBands are coming to Disneyland.

Our intrepid reporters asked Cast Members at the hotel and were given a firm “no” when they asked about MagicBands coming to the resort.

Most likely, these readers will be used in conjunction with an RFID hotel keycard for floor access by Cast Members and/or guests staying at the resort. The Grand Californian Hotel does not utilize RFID readers for room access, unlike most other modern resorts in the industry. Therefore, this could be a sign that RFID enabled room locks may be coming soon to the hotel.

  1. Love the convenience of RFID locks. So much faster to get in the door when your hands are full. Especially with MagicBands since you dont have to hold a card. But a RFID card is better then swiping it
