It’s time once again for the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, and this year brings us a duo of empanadas available at outdoor vending carts around the park. But are they worth stopping your grand Food & Wine tour to try? Let’s find out!

*NEW* Savory Beef Empanada with Chipotle Crema – $6.00
This empanada has a little bit of a kick to it. The outside breading is extremely buttery and flakey. The beef inside is warm and cooked perfectly, so it’s not too chewy.
The flavor of the meat is almost buttery as well. The potato mixed in has a good, somewhat salty, taste. The chipotle sauce is delicious and offsets the spice, making it a great combination.
*NEW* Sweet Apple Empanada with Caramel – $6.00
This empanada is basically a handheld apple pie. Like the savory empanada, the outside crust is buttery and flakey.
Unfortunately, the apples on the inside are undercooked and very hard. If you can get past that, the sweet cinnamon taste is delicious, but the caramel dipping sauce was too thick and overpowering. This treat wasn’t one of our favorites, and not nearly as good as the savory option.
