Fundraiser Performance of New Musical About Walt and Roy Disney to Air Next Month, Payson Lewis and Jonah Platt to Star

Theatermania has shared that a virtual performance of a brand-new musical will air next month, and it looks to be a must-watch for any fan of Disney and musical theater.

Walt and Roy: A Magical New Musical is an all-new biographical musical written by Richard Allen and Taran Gray, directed by Allen with music direction by Charlie Reuter. The story follows brothers Walt and Roy Disney from their roots in 1920’s Los Angeles, through to them developing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.

Set to star as the brothers is Payson Lewis (The Sing-Off) as Walt, and Jonah Platt (Wicked) as Roy. Joining them will be Conner Pierson (The Book of Mormon) who will portray the original character designer of Mickey Mouse, Ub Iwerks. Chelsea Lapp, Alex Arthur, Kürt Norby, Thomas Reasoner, Jon Sangster, Victoria Beall, Lafras Le Roux, Scott Redmond, Hailee Lipscomb, Nathan Nonhof, Justin Kent, Cavin Mohrhardt, and Bryan Porter will also star.

The virtual reading will take place on July 9th, as part of the four-night Allen and Gray Musical Theater Festival. Tickets can be purchased here. All money received from ticket sales will be donated to the Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS foundation and the Broadway for Racial Justice foundation.
