We wants the rum, boys. The Hollywood Reporter has just announced that a new Pirates of the Caribbean film is in the works for Disney, with Christina Hodson (Bumblebee, The Flash, Batgirl) writing and Margot Robbie (Bombshell, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Birds of Prey) as the female lead.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
Hodson has been tapped to write a new, female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean for Disney, with Robbie attached to star.
While plot details are being kept in Davey Jones’ locker, the project, in early development, is not intended to be a spinoff of the long-running franchise that had pirate Jack Sparrow at its center but rather a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker, itself inspired by the long-running attraction at Disneyland.
Longtime Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer is attached to produce this new Robbie/Hodson project.
No release date or further details have been announced, but we’re looking forward to seeing how this next step in the Pirates franchise evolves… and will we get to see the return of the infamous Jack Sparrow? Only time will tell.
