Earlier this month it was announced that Mulan would be released solely on Disney+ for an additional price of $29.99. If you have a Disney+ account, but still want to view Disney’s latest live-action film through other means, Disney will allow you to purchase the film through a number of third-party platforms, including Roku and Google.
On the Disney+ Help Center, under the Premier Access category, it’s noted that those wanting to watch the film can purchase it through the various in-app payment systems, such as the Apple App Store and Google Play.
With Premier Access it’s important to note, “Once you have Premier Access to Mulan, you can watch as many times as you want on any platform where Disney+ is available. Your access to Mulan will continue as long as you are an active Disney+ subscriber.“
According to Variety, Disney will collect transaction fees from the platforms. Roku will receive 20% of the film’s profits, while Apple and Google will reportedly walk away with 30%.
Disney announced during their earnings call in August, that Mulan would forgo the typical theatrical release due to the COVID-19 pandemic and instead be released solely through Disney+.
