Orange County Removed from COVID-19 Watch List; Could Be Good News for Disneyland Reopening

Orange County in California has been moved off the watch list for COVID-19, following a downward trend of cases in the county.

As the tweet from the City of Anaheim above states, being removed from the watchlist means:

  • there’s a sign of progress, but no changes will be made right away
  • the county must remain off the list for two weeks
  • schools can resume in-person teaching starting September 8th
  • the guidelines set for business will not change, as state guidance will need to be made
  • patrons should continue to remain vigilant in helping stop the spread

What does this change mean for Disneyland Resort? Currently, no reopening dates for the theme parks have been set, but we could see a date in the next few weeks should trends continue in this direction. Government approval for the reopening of any California theme park has yet to be rendered.

The Downtown Disney District has been open since July 19th, and currently, the Disneyland Resort hotels are accepting reservations beginning September 16th. For now, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel are both available, but the Disneyland Hotel is not available until October 1.

  1. Would it not be prudent for California officials to wait until Los Angeles County is off the watch list before green lighting the theme parks ?
