Disneyland is going on six months of consecutive closure and with so much across the country reopening, theme park associations and local governments are getting antsy about reopening and are now putting pressure on Governor Gavin Newsom to take action. In a recent statement, it seems Disney has now taken an open stance about the closure and how disappointed they are in the progress of the reopenings.
According to The Orange County Register, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock has issued the following statement regarding reopening process:
We are disappointed with the state’s lack of progress in providing the industry with guidance and clarity on reopening. We have proven we can operate responsibly, with strict health and safety protocols at our properties around the world and at Downtown Disney in Anaheim. Tens of thousands of people’s livelihoods depend on our ability to operate and we stand ready and willing to accelerate discussions with the Governor and his team to make ‘real progress’ toward our reopening and getting people back to work.
Ken Potrock, Disneyland Resort President
Gov. Newsom already indicated that discussions would be taking place and progress was being made towards opening the parks, but no official announcements regarding any decisions have been made.
Though other sectors of California’s economy appear to remain open under Gov. Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, amusement parks like Disneyland and Universal have not been cleared to takes steps towards opening. Beaches, restaurants, and other businesses are operating with COVID-19 health and safety restrictions, but Disneyland and Disney California Adventure remain closed to this day, despite the face that no outbreaks have been reported at Walt Disney World in Florida.
