Disneyland Resort Cancels Candlelight Processional for 2020 Holiday Season

Disneyland Resort has just announced that this year’s Candlelight Processional is cancelled, due to the constraints of hosting a large event amidst current COVID-19 health and safety protocols, as well as the uncertainty of the still-pending reopening for the parks.

From the OC Register:

Disneyland is disappointed that event attendees, choir members and cast members unfortunately will be unable to gather in this way in this unprecedented environment, according to Disney officials.

Disneyland was unable to commit to the months-long planning process for the Candlelight Processional without a clear understanding of when theme parks can reopen from the State of California, according to Disney officials.

The Candlelight Processional is one of the oldest and most beloved traditions in the history of Disney theme parks, and this would be the first year the event is cancelled. With Disneyland Park still closed, the ability to plan ahead for such a large event proved to be impossible. Cancellation notices for guests with resort hotel stays and vacation packages were sent out earlier today for arrivals through September 26.

Over on the East Coast, the popular Candlelight Processional that takes place at EPCOT was also cancelled for this year’s holiday offerings at the park.
