Helen Reddy, Australian singer, actress, and activist, has died at the age of 78. For many, she’s known for her hit song “I Am Woman”, but for old-school Disney fans, she played Nora in the 1977 film Pete’s Dragon, singing the Academy Award-nominated “Candle on the Water” love song.
Reddy was diagnosed with dementia in 2015 and had been living in an LA nursing home for retired entertainers.
A statement from Reddy’s children, Traci and Jordan, was posted to her official fan page:
“She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”
Helen Reddy also made a guest appearance on The Muppet Show.
So sorry to hear this, I was a big fan as a kid. Loved her music. My condolences to her family.
