While people remain socially distant during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Muppets are encouraging fans to reach out and connect online… and they’ve enlisted the help of two important figures from Walt Disney Imagineering to help.
The first video from the #RainbowConnectionChallenge starred Kermit the Frog, who encourages everyone to check in on friends and family before challenging actor Danny Trejo and WDI President Bob Weis to do the same.
Weis responded on Instagram, giving a shout-out to Barbara Bouza, Walt Disney Imagineering’s President of Business Operations Design & Delivery, as well as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, showing them both on the construction site of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure during the installation of the Quinjet.
Weis then mentioned Fozzie Bear, the Muppets’ beloved ursine comedian, who responded on Twitter with a video of his own.
Fozzie passed the challenge onto actress and writer Mindy Kaling and legendary Imagineer Joe Rohde, who according to Fozzie, once complimented him on his hat. Fozzie then returned the favor by praising his taste in “accessories,” no doubt a reference to Rohde’s famed earrings.
Hours later, Rohde (wearing a fabulous earring) replied, tagging the Muppets’ go-fer Scooter and Imagineer Zach Riddley, who recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at construction on the illuminated canopy for TRON Lightcycle / Run in the Magic Kingdom.
While it’s unknown if this is leading to a new Imagineering project featuring the Muppets, it should be noted that The Muppets Studio is a part of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products. All in all, it’s still a nice reminder to share the love with the people we care about. (And that you should check out Muppets Now on Disney+!)
