According to multiple sources, Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery has died. He was 90. Connery is best known for portraying British secret agent James Bond in seven Bond films. He last played 007 in 1983’s Never Say Never Again. The actor also starred in a handful of Disney-produced features over his many decades in film.
Connery retired from acting in 2006.
Connery first appeared in a Disney film in 1959’s Darby O’Gill and the Little People. He played Michael McBride, a “strapping young lad” who courts Katie O’Gill.
His best-known Disney-related role is Henry Jones, Sr. in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Connery played father to Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones. The duo’s amazing chemistry added heartfelt and comedic moments to the third Indiana Jones film. Although Disney did not produce Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, it now owns the rights to the franchise after its 2012 purchase of Lucasfilm.
In 1992, Connery played Dr. Robert Campbell in Hollywood Pictures’ The Medicine Man.
Connery joined Nicholas Cage and Ed Harris for 1996’s The Rock, also produced by Disney-owned Hollywood Pictures. Connery played John Mason, a fictional character who was the only man to escape Alcatraz Island.
In addition to his Bond and Disney films, Connery also starred in hits like The Hunt for Red October, First Knight, and Entrapment.
Connery is survived by his wife Micheline, son Jason, and brother Neil.
