Just days after a 10 PM curfew was enacted following Orange County, California reentering the state’s purple “widespread” tier of COVID-19, nearby Los Angeles County has issued a stay-at-home order beginning Monday, November 30th and lasting through Sunday, December 20th, according to KTLA.

The county, which is home to Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk Hollywood, reported a five-day average of 4,751 new COVID-19 cases, well above the threshold of 4,500 new cases on the same average that would trigger new restrictions. Essential and emergency workers will be allowed to leave their homes under the rules. County officials stated as part of the decision, “Residents are advised to stay home as much as possible and always wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when they are outside their household and around others.”

Beginning Monday, all public and private gatherings with people who are not a part of their household are prohibited, with additional occupancy limits being put in place. Non-essential retail stores will have a maximum 20% capacity, with essential stores like grocery stores and pharmacies being kept to 35%. The new rules could delay any possible reopening of the theme park, though public parks will remain open, though gatherings of individuals not in the same household will be prohibited.

On Wednesday, indoor dining was suspended in the county, following Orange County’s lead. While not in Los Angeles County, the move could affect attendance at the Disneyland Resort during the holiday season. Recently, the resort reopened Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure for shopping and outdoor dining.

The county’s Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement, “We know we are asking a lot from so many who have been sacrificing for months on end and we hope that L.A. County residents continue following Public Health safety measures that we know can slow the spread. Acting with collective urgency right now is essential if we want to put a stop to this surge. Please remain home as much as possible and do not gather with others not in your household for the next three weeks.”
