BREAKING: Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney Becoming Star Wars Trading Post

In September, the Star Wars Trading Post took over the WonderGround Gallery in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort. While the store has been a great place to find Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge merchandise, some have wondered if the WonderGround Gallery would return.

Thankfully, Disney Parks Blog has now confirmed that the Star Wars Trading Post will be relocating to a more permanent location and WonderGround Gallery will be reopening.

According to Disney Parks Blog, Star Wars Trading Post “will soon be moving to an exciting new spot at the west end of the Downtown Disney District. Walt Disney Imagineers have created a design inspired by a hidden jungle Resistance base, and it even includes Rey’s iconic speeder prominently displayed at the entrance.” It seems the Star Wars shop will be taking over the old Rainforest Cafe building.

After closing in June of 2018, Rainforest Cafe expressed interest in returning to Disneyland Resort. It initially closed while Disney was planning a new four-star luxury hotel in the location. That plan was scrapped, and locations such as Earl of Sandwich reopened. Over two years later, it looks like Disney never struck up a new deal with Landry’s Inc., the parent company of Rainforest Cafe, and is taking advantage of the empty location.

Star Wars Trading Post will still be housing exclusive Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge merchandise in its new home while Disneyland remains closed indefinitely. WonderGround Gallery will reopen with housewares, headbands, Spirit Jerseys, and more, but also some of the art it was known for previously.

Opening dates for either store have not yet been announced. For now, Downtown Disney District, Buena Vista Street, and the Disneyland Resort Backlot Premier Shop are all open 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Keep checking WDWNT for updates.

  1. Rainforest Cafe isn’t coming back, that ship has sailed. I hope that the food truck that was there can be located somewhere else when dining opens up. It’s a great way to repurpose space. Hopefully after COVID is over, they can utilize the kitchens and seating area and make Moz’s cantina and have Star Wars character dining 🤷‍♀️

  2. that sucks!!I love the rainforest cafe and was hoping it would return. So glad there’s one in vegas! Disney always puts money first,oh well.
