BREAKING: Disneyland Resort Theme Parks and Universal Studios Hollywood Can Reopen April 1st, 2021

According to Brady MacDonald of the OC Register, California theme parks can reopen April 1st under updated guidelines from the state’s health department following a year of coronavirus closures that cost the industry billions of dollars and thousands of jobs.

The new California theme park guidelines and possible opening date are part of a “refresh” of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s four-tier Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure, and Universal Studios Hollywood have been closed since March 2020 thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many parks have partially reopened or will be for special events and food festivals without rides, such as A Touch of Disney and A Taste of Universal.

Newsom’s “Blueprint Refresh” finally allows Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, and other California theme parks to reopen as early as April 1st, 2021 once the counties they are located in reach the red/substantial tier 2 risk status. Orange and Los Angeles counties are expected to move into the red/substantial tier 2 next week.

Starting on April 1, California theme parks can reopen at 15% capacity in the red/substantial tier 2. Capacity levels will shift in the orange/moderate tier 3 and yellow/minimal tier 4. Theme park attendance will be limited to California residents.

  1. About freakin’ time!!! Let the people go back to work. If you’re scared, then stay home. Stop destroying the economy, and people’s ability to earn a living!

  2. 15% capacity…is not worth it, being that if the cases rise again for some reason, Disneyland will have to shut down again. Should wait till at least 25% capacity, I would think. Nevertheless, it’s good news. I’m hoping to be able to visit Disneyland in a year.
