More Details Released on New Backstory for The Jungle Cruise at Disneyland, Walt Disney World Featuring Alberta Falls

Announced earlier this year, Disney is building on the original story of the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland park and Magic Kingdom, adding more humor, wildlife and skipper heart to the classic attraction, and as part of a much larger effort, this updated experience will welcome new characters from around the world. The alterations are all part of an initiative to be more inclusive, so far announced to bring changes to this attraction and Splash Mountain.

The enhancements include several new scenes guests will experience along the river, all interconnected. World-famous skippers will continue to share the unique adventure and interactions guests expect on the Jungle Cruise.

The new scenes will heighten the skippers’ legendary comedic tone, beginning with a trapped safari party that finds itself up a tree after their journey goes awry. Unexpected scenarios along the way will give the jungle and animals the last laugh.

For those looking to dive deeper, Disney is also expanding the attraction’s backstory, centered around Alberta Falls, granddaughter of world-renowned Dr. Albert Falls, as the proprietor of the Jungle Navigation Company Ltd.

In this new story, Albert Falls has gone missing, leaving Alberta to run the Jungle Navigation Company. This does make sense given that, in story, it was she who turned the Skipper Canteen from a mess hall, S.E.A. meeting place, and private offices into a restaurant for the public to enjoy. Now, that story is being expanded and altered to make it Alberta who founded the legendary Jungle Cruise tour service that skippers take guests on.

The newspaper above also mentions the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, an organization that has grown into The Jungle Cruise story over the years, starting with Skipper Canteen at the Magic Kingdom and continuing with Tropical Hideaway at Disneyland. Alberta even calls out her first visit to Mystic Point, home to Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland.

The most interesting part might just be the “next trip” Alberta is talking about. She specifically calls out the names and professions of those who will be joining her, leading us to believe this might be the party whose boat is hijacked by primates and ends up a pole thank to an angry rhino in the updated attraction.

So, what do you think of the new story coming to The Jungle Cruise?

  1. I wonder if they added any tie-ins to the upcoming Jungle Cruise movie. Maybe they are keeping that part secret.

  2. The gal who’s the artist does seem to look a lot like Alberta, but I don’t think that’s what they’re aiming for, right? Surely I’m wrong…
