REVIEW: New Plant-Based Options, Brisket Mac ‘n Cheese, S’mores Shake Disappoint at Smokejumpers Grill at Disney California Adventure

Smokejumpers Grill has a new menu offering sweet and savory options for “A Touch of Disney”, the limited-capacity ticketed experience that began March 18th, running Thursdays through Mondays, from noon – 8 PM at Disney California Adventure. The new options sound delicious and feature some plant-based options as well, so we decided to try them out!

Petite Impossible™ Burger with Guac and Pepper Jack – $7.99

Topped with Melted Pepper Jack Cheese, fresh Guacamole and Tomato, on a Toasted mini Bun

This was fine, nothing exciting. It’s a decent Impossible burger.

The guacamole seemed to be formed into a patty shape. However, it did not taste fresh. The pepper jack cheese paired well with the burger but didn’t melt much as it’s an alternative cheese.

The bun was very dry. The quality of the ingredients in this dish was obviously not as good as they could be.

Impossible™ Chili Waffle Fries – $7.99

Spiced Impossible™ Chili with Beans, Tomato and Corn, Spicy Mayo, Cheddar Cheese, and Pico de Gallo

This is a much better Impossible meat option at Smokejumpers. The fries were great, very crispy and warm.

The chili was hearty with a little spicy kick to it. The pico added a good contrast of fresh flavors.

We personally couldn’t even tell it was plant-based. This dish probably had the best portion size out of everything we tried.

Brisket Mac ‘n Cheese

Creamy mac ‘n cheese, smoked barbecue brisket, pickled red onions, and crispy fried shallots

This was our favorite of the new items we tried from Smokejumpers.

The mac ‘n cheese itself was just okay. The pasta was a little bit overcooked, but not terribly.

The brisket was delicious! The quality of the meat was great. Though the smoked barbecue was a little bit sweet, it complements the rest of the dish perfectly. The pickled red onions also added a hint of sweetness. The crispy fried shallots added texture but not much else to the dish.

S’mores Specialty Shake – $7.49

image-from-ios-1-175

This is the worst shake we have ever tried at Disney.

image-from-ios-2-184

The base of this shake is vanilla ice cream with a hint of graham cracker. While it was very pretty and photographs well, it tasted like vanilla ice cream that had melted and was sitting out for two hours. The chocolate did help add richness but not enough.

The graham cracker and marshmallows were nice toppings but added nothing to the shake.

Though the shake is great aesthetically, we do not recommend drinking this at all.

While these could remain as regular offerings upon the reopening of Disneyland Resort, if you will be attending “A Touch of Disney” and would like to try these new offerings for yourself now, you can find these items at Smokejumpers Grill in Grizzly Peak. Let us know your thoughts!
