All Disney Stores in Canada to Close This Summer

According to Retail Insider, all 18 Disney Store locations in Canada will close by the end of the summer. This move comes after Disney announced in March that 20% of all Disney Stores in North America would be closing for good.

Two Canadian Disney Stores were on the list of closing locations released in March. The remaining 18 locations are now rumored to be next. Disney is said to be paying out any money owed on leases to facilitate speedy closures.

Disney has been open with the plan to move toward e-commerce, leaning heavily on ShopDisney rather than physical store locations. This will be in combination with the new partnership with Target, allowing for “miniature” Disney Stores inside the retail giant in select locations.

  1. Why would you post this? It hasn’t been confirmed and it impacts the Cast Members that work there. Poor form. This just causes stress in an already stressful time. Very disappointed in you.

  2. I hope the open ShopDisney to Canadians and offer shipping at a reasonable rate. We don’t have a Disney store in our city, but we travel to two cities with Disney stores often to shop there. We will be sad to see them gone.

    • I agree. They need a shopdisney canadian site. Too expensive with shipping and duties yo come from the US site.

  3. If Disney doesn’t make ShopDisney more accessible for Canadians, they’re losing out.

We can never order exclusive merch, the shipping fees cost more than some items, PLUS we have to pay the exchange rate and duty fees.

As well, UK and Japan have their own Disney sites and we’re stuck on the outside looking in.

Closing all these stores is absolutely heartbreaking and really shows how much they care about their Canadian consumer… they don’t.

This is also heartbreaking because hundreds of cast members will now be without a job in a market where jobs are hard to come by.

I know they won’t change their mind, but I hope enough Canadians complain that maybe ShopDisney does something for north of the boarder.

    • Don’t get that jealous of us over here in the U.K. Very little ‘exclusive’ or limited edition stuff makes its way to the U.K. website. It’s mainly toys & children’s clothes. I usually end up buying pins I want from private US sellers on eBay instead.

  4. Shame to see all the stores closing there and in the USA. Always enjoy wondering in the stores and looking around and being able to touch and actually look at what I am going to buy. ShopDisney site is ok, but so many things in stock are limited and then the packaging when they send it is awful!! Last time I ordered something from them it came in a huge box,.1piece of bubble wrap thrown in the box and 1 piece of Disney tissue paper inside. Luckily nothing got broken. They do a poor job of wrapping and shipping things out. Have complained in the past about this and was told nothing could be done….

  5. Sorry to hear this for our fellow Disney fans to the North! Especially sorry for all the Canadian kids who won’t get to experience the joy and wonder of walking into The Disney Store . . .

    • It always out a smile on my face as an adult, so this absolutely breaks my heart. We even had a Disney Trip reveal for my daughter there, so it takes away from the magic again. :( I really hope they will open up the Disney site to ship more easily to Canadians as well… $30USD for an item that is already $30USD is absolutely ridiculous for shipping and then we have duties attached to that before we even receive the delivery. Such a sad day – very disappointed!

P.S. Walt Disney Co. could have avoided closing all the stores by just offering curbside pickup, like many stores in malls have done to stay afloat. If they had worked on the Canadian options earlier (like they had proposed Canadian guests YEARS ago, before the pandemic), this would have been an easier transition. Oh well, I guess. :(

  6. Yup online shopping on the Disney web site Sucks for Canadians. Shipping then UPS charges insane Duty Taxes and import fees usually equal to the cost of the item. No Canadian online shopping site……

    • If they had a “curbside pickup” option, like many other retailers do, then they could have stayed afloat and kept the magic wherever they could in Canada. Super disappointed right now… my heart is broken. :(

      • Yup. They were one of the last retailers to open bqck up after the initial shut down. Surely they have other options? Why alienate a market the size of Canada??

  7. This is sad. Part of the Disney shopping experience is walking into their highly themed stores. I feel like this will make the brand associations with Disney harder to make when they can’t actually experience Disney in person unless they go the US or to the parks. But we shall see.

  8. Really sad, that Disney would screw Canadian fans like this! Theyve done nothing to make thwir “online” business work for Canadians. Obsene ahipping/duty and taxes charges to Canadian shoppers. Very sad and ridiculous

  9. Most of the product on the website Disney refuses to ship to Canada, effectively cutting Canadians out of the Disney community. America First.

    • Their online presence in Canada is a joke. Punitive shipping/duty charges. Items they wont ship, they ALWAYS have a free shipping option with a minimum spend…of course never applies to Canada.
