Yesterday, Trans March posted that Pixar Animation Studios sent them a flyer of an audition opportunity for actors 12-17 years old to voice a transgender teen.
Just last week, Disney finally rolled out their 5th key of “Inclusion” to help with the progression of acceptance and diversity within the company. The addition of this key helps with gender inclusivity and allyship.
This is a big step for the entertainment industry to feature a transgender teen in a mainstream offering.
On the flyer, it asks for an enthusiastic, outgoing, funny, and energetic actor who can authentically portray a 14-year-old transgender girl.
According to the Williams Institute an estimated 0.7% of the United States population identifies as transgender.
That’s cool. I have worked with several people that identify as transgender and they are regular people.
That’s cool. They’re still an overwhelming minority of people.
I don’t understand the argument that minority stories can’t be told by big-name studios. As if they can only make movies that appeal to the straight, white man, and anything beyond that is just “pandering.” I guarantee you that a risk assessment is performed during the development of a movie like this, and they have determined that the benefit outweighs the potential backlash from people like you.
I don’t understand the argument either. When I worked for the big parks in Orlando, a lot of times there were a majority of people from the LGTB+ community. Disney is a very welcoming environment to those in the community.
Many of the “wonderful” park guests don’t realize that the parks are run by people of minority racial backgrounds and people of other gender preferences/orientations. These are all normal people that deserve to be treated just as well as everyone else. Again, why is there so much hate?
Why is there so much hate and why does it hurt you so much that a transgender person will be represented in a Pixar movie?

I don’t care if Disney or Pixar wants to do a movie of all LBGT cast, just as long as the story is interesting. That is, I don’t want to see another ONWARD, where the two brothers look repulsive, and so does their dad the pair of pants.
