REVIEW: GCH Craftsman Bar & Grill Charcuterie Pizza Brings Great Flavors to a Reopened Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at Disneyland Resort reopened today, and for now, the GCH Craftsman Bar & Grill are the only dining locations open. The bar and grill currently have the same menu, which is a hybrid of favorites from both locations.

Craftsman Grill is using mobile order for now and reservations are required for Craftsman Bar. Both menus are available through a QR code.

That being said, the bar was allowing walk-up guests today.

Dining at GCH Craftsman Bar & Grill is only available to guests staying at Disney’s Grand Californian.

The bar has Plexiglass dividers to protect both guests and Cast Members.

There is limited, distanced seating, which provides guests with a relaxed experience and good view of the pool. The bar opened back in 2019, offering a menu of fresh selections to the outdoor venue.

Inside, there are still grab-and-go items for guests, but signs ask that you limit handling the product. We recommend only picking up what you know you are going to buy.

Seating at Craftsman Grill is also distanced, and far more limited than it was before the closure due to COVID-19.

Signs remind guests that even the larger tables should only have one party at a time.

We were seated outside under a beautiful, blue Southern California sky.

The menu QR codes — one for English, one for Spanish — are sealed between two sheets of lucite. This both waterproofs the codes and allows for easy cleaning and disinfecting.

Charcuterie Pizza — $26

Premium Pepperoni, Prosciutto, Salami, Fennel Sausage, Arugula, Fire-roasted Tomatoes, Grana Padano, and Aged Provolone Cheese

This is quite the pizza. With pepperoni, prosciutto, salami, and Italian sausage, this is a great blend of different meats.

The pepperoni is a little chewy but the prosciutto makes up for it: very good quality, easy to eat, with a little bit of a sweet flavor. The Italian sausage added a surprising kick of garlic.  The fire roasted tomatoes and arugula made the pizza fresh which balanced out the heavy meats.

The Grana Padano and provolone were good base cheeses, but the meats definitely overpowered them.

The crust was also nice — basic like most wood-fired pizzas, and not too crunchy.

Our only real dislike was the amount of oil on the pizza. The oil was literally dripping off of the slices. The pieces quickly get soggy because they are soaked with oil.

Other than the excess oil, we enjoyed the charcuterie pizza. The flavors worked very well together, and the portion size was acceptable for the price.
