Walt Disney World Resort has announced another change to their COVID-19 safety policies and will now require masks to be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status beginning July 30. This aligns with the recommendations from Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Disneyland Resort has also reinstated the indoor mask policy in alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state of California’s recommendations.
Until now, vaccinated guests were permitted to go maskless everywhere except on Disney transportation. Unvaccinated guests were asked to continue wearing masks indoors, including transportation.
“We are adapting our health and safety guidelines based on guidance from health and government officials, and will require Cast Members and Guests ages 2 and up, to wear face coverings in all indoor locations at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort beginning Friday, July 30, regardless of vaccination status. At Walt Disney World Resort, this includes upon entering and throughout all attractions and in enclosed transportation vehicles, including shuttles, buses, monorails and at Disney Skyliner,” reads an official statement from Disney.

Well so much for planning our next trip. We did one trip with masks, but I am not doing that again. I’ll start looking into it again when all this craziness settles down. Hopefully fast pass will be back by then too.

Same here. Just canceled DVC res in October. Not playing the game again, particularly when the CDC is refusing to release their “data” to a growing number of of medical and scientific experts asking to see it.
That seems a bit premature. After this wave peaks they will be gone again. No way WDW is doing their 50th in masks.
I went the first week of July. It was great not having to wear masks, although I did in a couple situations like Rise of the Resistance and before entering San Angel Inn. Going back for New Years. Hopefully things don’t get more restrictive or I’ll cancel.

The GOP governor will not allow businesses to protect their customers…I mean ask for vax information.
Because the GOP in Florida passed a law prohibiting businesses from doing so.

Yeah, and those who are vaccinated and are still getting the virus again. Those people ruined it for the rest of us too! And those saying “our body, our choice.” How dare they make their own medical decisions! Don’t they know that is what the government is for? Hopefully they mandate all medical decisions be run through them from now on. The general public isn’t smart enough to assess risk and make up their own mind.
I will be hardcore praying (again) that this lifts so we can all enjoy our trips and special events coming up in the next couple of months.
I’m not sure they had much of a choice. They are already being put under a ridiculous amount of scrutiny just for even trying to be open – so they basically have to follow the guidelines or risk litigation they probably would prefer to not have to deal with.
Hopefully this situation changes before our planned trip next November, but if it looks like it won’t (and I doubt it will honestly – not sure they’ll ever truly let us go back to not wearing masks) I’ll probably end up canceling.
This could be for a few weeks. The numbers are high and they are listening to the CDC. As the wind blows the CDC will change their minds again. Than the masks will be gone. Disney won’t want people for the 50th wearing masks.
Exactly. I don’t like it, I don’t think masks on vaccinated people is right or helps, but it’s extremely temporary and they had no choice. The pressure was huge.
I guess this saved me money. Just about to recover/renew my expired annual pass. Glad I hadn’t completed this before Disney announced another round of madness.

So vaccinated people have to wear masks because non vaccinated people won’t wear masks or get vaccinated. This doesn’t solve the problem!

Do you know what’s really disappointing? It’s not that we have to wear masks again (hopefully not for long), rather, the amount of bullying and absolutely rude commentary taking place across WDW, Instagram, and Disney blogs about this decision. And I would put money on it that the very people that are behaving in such poor form are the very same people that are so against bullying and shaming others and only call it out when it suits them or trending on social media. Our freedom of speech should not be exercised in such ways as to bully or sham others. In the words of Thumper, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all.”
Curious as to what this does to Disney’s cancelation policy?? During Covid I, you had up to the day of arrival to cancel. Dropping this on people with one day’s notice might be tough for some. Also, what if people get there and want to leave early. How does that work??
When we went, it was masks everywhere except for eating or in your hotel room. That was before a vaccine was available. Disney had us sign a waiver to come (the risk was on us). We got vaccinated. A vaccine lessens the affect of disease if you are exposed or you have no symptoms at all. Disney could have us sign a waiver again. They probably will anyway. Only medical professionals have access to the right mask. If the numbers going up are related to the nonvaccinated, how can vaccinated people wearing masks help? People that don’t want to vaccinate can wear a mask. Why lump everybody into this?
Here at Disney right now and we all welcome the decision. Parks are hopping and crowds are large, but not many masks to be seen. I am really disappointed in all of those people who didn’t get vaccinated and then lie and choose not to wear a mask. They are fully responsible for the mess we are all in. I appreciate Disney trying to provide voluntary masking, but it was very clear that at least 50% of ‘guests’ chose to lie and not wear a mask when they should have.
Looks like its vaccinated people are spreading the virus according to the NY Times, Wall Street Journal and CNN. Also, this is cases, not deaths increasing. The WH is in panic mode because they urged vaccines in May and now the vaccine is facilitating the spread of the virus, they didn’t expect that.
