‘Black Panther’ Actress Dorothy Steel Passes Away at 95

Actress Dorothy Steel, who played an elder of the Merchant Tribe of Wakanda in “Black Panther,” has passed away, according to WSBTV Atlanta. She was 95.

Steel, who auditioned for a role in the 2018 film and was cast just an hour later, was brought back for the sequel which is filming now. She was on set filming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” when her health took a turn for the worse. Marvel flew her home to Detroit to spend her final hours with her family.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has also famously lost another cast member prior to filming. Chadwick Boseman, who plays the titular hero, passed away from colon cancer in 2020.

Before her passing, Steel shared memories of working with Boseman on the first film.

“Chadwick the King. Every day, he would make sure if I was on the set, he would come by and make sure he gave me a big old hug and kiss,” Steel told WSB TV Atlanta.
