BREAKING: Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland to Close March 2022 for Reimagining

Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland will be closing in March 2022 for a reimagining to include new interactive elements. The land will then reopen in 2023 alongside Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

At the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Expo, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced a large-scale reimagining of Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland.

Mickey’s Toontown will “transform into a vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and sensations,” focusing on sensory play and spaces for families to play together and relax.

“We are so excited to leverage Disney’s powerful brand, develop new stories and share even more magical experiences with our guests,” said D’Amaro. “The newly reimagined Mickey’s Toontown will be a welcoming place where families and younger guests can connect and play together in fun new ways.”

Mickey’s Toontown will feature open, grassy areas designed to encourage all kinds of play, from active to tactile.

One of the new areas coming to Mickey’s Toontown will be CenTOONial Park, a nature-inspired environment with two interactive play experiences.

At the center of CenTOONial Park will be a fountain, with water tables for sensory activities. At night, the fountain will be “brought to life in a unique spectacle.” During the reimagining, the current iconic fountains featuring Mickey Mouse and Roger Rabbit will be removed (along with the old Jolly Trolley Station).

CenTOONial Park will also feature a “dreaming tree,” inspired by the tree where Walt Disney would daydream in his youth. Sculpted tree roots will provide an opportunity for children to play, crawl and explore, and undulating topography will offer rolling hills and a place to sit and dream.

In addition to reopening in 2023 with the new, family-friendly, and adventurous Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Mickey’s Toontown will still be home to many beloved characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and more!

Mickey’s Toontown will close in March of 2022 to begin creating these all-new experiences.

  1. Yawn! Yes., please take my $179 per day to sit on a grassy knoll!!! Parents are just screaming for this.

I’m sure they’ll use this as an opportunity to rip out the Toontown Trolley tracks.

  2. What Jolly Trolley? There’s no Jolly Trolley here! Paid for by the toontown department of plausible deniability.

  3. I don’t like this. Note how D’Amaro starts right off with using “brand” when describing this project. This art does not look like it will be positive for the Jolly Trolly or Roger rabbit….Yikes.

  4. Wow, they are for sure going to water down the land to save money but I hope I am wrong. A whole year gone, wow.
