Beef Tamale – $8
with Red Sauce
This was a very good tamale, with fluffy yet hearty masa and a subtly spicy red sauce over shredded beef. It felt stiffer than one may expect when handled through the wrapper, but it was a perfect consistency once fully unwrapped. Being served from a cart, the tamale could stand to be a little warmer, but that doesn’t detract from the enjoyment. The flavors are classic and well combined, making for a wonderful and traditional Navidad dish.
Guava and Cheese Pan Dulce – $4
Guava and cheese pan dulce finished with a colorful chocolate sarape
The sweet bread was light and fluffy with a thick, gooey filling of guava glaze, topped with a thick serape of white chocolate drizzled across the whole top of the pastry. The guava was very predominant, while the cheese was barely noticeable. The colorful chocolate did stain our fingers and cracked off the top in large chunks while eating, but beyond that, the dessert was well-composed and very fruity.
