Construction walls have been erected around the former AMC Theater and neighboring businesses on the west side at Downtown Disney District.
Crews are wasting no time, with colorful walls extending around the vacant buildings.
Temporary barriers are also in place.
A gap left for a planter bed allows a peek inside, where construction materials and a wheelbarrow are staged.
More materials are visible behind the walls, and crews were actively working.
The former Earl of Sandwich was the last to close, joining Sugarboo & Co. and Starbucks in the venues lost to the reimagining.
The new open, grassy area will be utilized as an event space with reimagined shopping and dining. Check out the concept art below to see the mid-century style design.

What a waste. That was a really nice theater, and the best IMAX in Southern California. We’d go to the park, then see a movie or vice versa. It was a very successful theater until Disney got rid of the complimentary parking. They wound up giving you 4 hours and that required a theater stamp – 4 hours was not nearly enough time to go grab dinner and a movie. Then they gave the whole DTD lot to the CM’s which I get, but having theatergoers park far away in the Paradise Pier or Mickey/Pixar structure was asking a lot. This demo further plunges DTD into subpar status in comparison to Disney Springs – that mall and it’s theater are beyond superior to DTD. Adding the Pele and greeting card store; where The Void used to be, none of it makes any sense at all. Disney just keeps going backwards.
