California Gov. Newsom Says ‘Door is Open’ for Disney to Bring Jobs Back After Antagonistic Comments from Florida Gov. DeSantis

In a Tweet sent Saturday evening, California Governor Gavin Newsom extended an olive branch towards The Walt Disney Company following antagonizing comments from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis regarding Disney’s stance on the Parental Rights in Education bill, colloquially known as “Don’t Say Gay”.

The tweet referenced an article from The Los Angeles Times which covered the saga of Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek’s response to the controversial Florida state bill, where he said:

Disney, the door is open to bring those jobs back to California – the state that actually represents the values of your workers.

Disney is famously in the midst of relocating more than 2000 jobs from California to Lake Nona, Florida, a situation which is feeding into the destruction of Walt Disney Imagineering as we know it.

This comment comes following a rebuke by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Chapek’s eventual denunciation of the bill earlier this week, of which DeSantis said “You have companies, like at Disney, that are going to say and criticize parents’ rights, they’re going to criticize the fact that we don’t want transgenderism in kindergarten in first grade classrooms.”

Chapek initially came under fire after it was discovered Disney donated to all sponsors of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The company released a lackluster statement and Chapek later emailed all Disney employees regarding the bill, but did not denounce it. Employees and Cast Members spoke out, and members of Disney Media Entertainment and Distribution released a statement before Chapek finally committed to opposing the bill during this week’s shareholder meeting.

  1. It’s nice to know that the governor is giving Disney a chance and from what I heard they do intend to bring more jobs back. Also I think destroying Disney Imaginering might be a bit overdramatic.

  2. Oh, California the state that kept Disneyland closed for over a year. Yeah, governor Newsome you helped castmembers so much during that time.

  3. How ironic. All of a sudden, Newsome conveniently cares about all those job losses within Disney Imagineering from Burbank, CA to Lake Nona, FL. Liberals never waste a good disaster, even ones they create themselves, such as this. He didn’t seem to care when he shut down Disneyland for more than a year and created tons of job losses. Disgusting.

  4. The door is open to bring those jobs back to California as long as you don’t need to pay for gasoline to drive to work…

  5. Of course, this is commendable that California Gov. Newsom makes such statements because this time was quite controversial for Disney and its reputation, but I am so glad that the situation slowly, but surely comes to its diffusing. Of course, people should not suffer from the government’s decisions and different disagreements because it is not fair. I am truly glad that “the door is open to bring those jobs back to California” because it is a great step and favor for a great deal of people which were forced to lose a source of income. From my point of view, it is a reasonable measure which will only lead to positive consequences and changes. To tell the truth, I think that destruction of Walt Disney Imagineering will be a loss of global scale because it will affect a lot of different life spheres and it can’t happen.
