The Walt Disney Company States Intention to Have ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill Repealed After Gov. DeSantis Signs it Into Law

Today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill, a.k.a. HB 1557 or the Parental Rights in Education bill, into law. The Walt Disney Company released a statement reading, “Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts.” Read the full statement below.

Florida’s HB 1557, also known as the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, should never have passed and should never have been signed into law. Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that. We are dedicated to standing up for the rights and safety of LGBTQ+ members of the Disney family, as well as the LGBTQ+ community in Florida and across the country.

After news broke that The Walt Disney Company donates money to sponsors of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, the company received immense criticism and backlash from its fans and the Disney community.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek sent out multiple emails to Cast Members, only initially acknowledging the situation, and then eventually denouncing the bill and vowing to donate funds to support LGBTQIA+ communities.

Disney made another statement last week among employee walkouts.

  1. Your “goal as a company”???? Umm…Maybe your “goal as a company” should be to fix the numerous problems of your theme parks right now.

  2. They are creating an “you agree with us if you buy from us” situation. To tell someone that you go to Disney or you watch Disney is going to be a kin to agreeing that kindergartners can decide their own gender and have their sexuality manipulated by teachers. Disney is making an explicit declaration that the government owns your children.

This is far beyond the usual corporate political dabbling. The corporation is no longer interested just in its Business environment – it is now decided to get on the side of dictating to parents and people how they will live their lives.

It’s very sad very very sad.

  3. Too little too late. Disney should never have supported it in the first place, and only took this stance once they got called out on it.

  4. It sure would have cost a lot less, and wouldn’t have been a PR nightmare, if Disney just came out against this stupid law right off the bat!

  5. Flip flop, flip flop. Disney just keeps putting themselves deeper into a mess of their own creation. JUST ENTERTAIN US! STAY OUT OF POLITICS!

  6. Parents have the right to regulate what is taught in their ( tax payer funded ) schools. It is a shame when educators and woke special interest groups feel the need teach anything other than Reading, Writing and Arithmetic to the very young. Once again they want to reach children what to thing not how to thing.
