REVIEW: Bananas Foster Funnel Cake Fries and Pastrami Reuben Dog at Disney California Adventure

Award Weiners at Disney California Adventure is joining the festive fun with two seasonal dishes — the Pastrami Reuben Dog and the Bananas Foster Funnel Cake Fries.

Award Weiners is located in Hollywood Land, next to Mickey’s PhilharMagic.

Pastrami Reuben Dog – $15.49

All-beef hot dog topped with thinly sliced pastrami, caramelized onions, pickled cabbage, Thousand Island dressing, spicy mustard, provolone, and pickle spears on a toasted baguette

The flavors are all here, but it’s just so unwieldy. There’s so much in this dog that it’s tough to get a bite that includes all of these flavors.

Then being served in a sliced baguette, the tough, chewy crust of the bread pushes all of the ingredients out the sides before you can bite through the bread, allowing even less to hit the palate at once.

Picking up the pieces off the plate, one can get a full bite of all the classic Reuben flavors. But as a dog on a bun, it doesn’t really work. Additionally, the spicy mustard overpowers a lot of what’s here.

We enjoyed what we could get out of it, but it just feels like a lot of work for not as much payoff as we would hope.

Bananas Foster Funnel Cake Fries – $9.49

topped with cinnamon-banana sugar, caramel sauce, whipped topping, and fried bananas

These are shockingly good. We weren’t expecting anything too new or different from funnel cake fries, but this cinnamon banana sugar changes everything.

We don’t even really want the whipped cream or caramel, just the fries with the cinnamon banana sugar. It’s delicate, it’s sweet, it’s crispy, and it’s a great treat for sitting down with a meal or walking around the park.

Bananas Foster Funnel Cake Fries

We enjoyed the Bananas Foster Funnel Cake Fries a lot more than we thought we would, and we’re going to be revisiting them again as soon as possible.

The holiday season at Disneyland runs from November 11 through January 8.
