REVIEW: NEW Wrapped With Love Debuts With Best Drink of the Festival at Disney California Adventure for Lunar New Year 2023

For Lunar New Year 2023, available in Disney California Adventure, there are two new food booths: Bamboo Blessings and Wrapped in Love. While Bamboo Blessings had a variety of beers and some snack options, Wrapped with Love features two hearty dishes and two cocktails.

*NEW* Pork and Shrimp Wontons – $8.75

with a Black Garlic Sauce

These were the better of the two dumplings, with classic pork and shrimp flavor. This tastes like dim sum in a bite. They are predominantly shrimp but with the added richness of pork on the back end.

The black garlic sauce, as mentioned in the other dumpling review, is just incredible and makes an already delicious dumpling something truly memorable.

*NEW* Bok Choy & Mushroom Dumplings – $8.75

with a Black Garlic Sauce

These were enjoyable and more of what we expected from an Asian food festival. The bok choy is the predominant flavor, though the mushroom is present, just not quite as heavily. The bok choy brings an earthy, green vegetable flavor, almost like spinach. It’s not unpleasant, but it is strong. It’s good for fans of cruciferous vegetables who also want a fun lunar New Year treat. Overall, we enjoyed them, but they are not our favorite dumplings at this booth.

The black garlic sauce, on the other hand, is welcome to go on anything we eat for the rest of our lives. That stuff is incredible. It’s garlicky, it’s tangy, it’s salty, it’s just incredible.

*NEW* Pineapple Baijiu Cocktail – $16.00

Dark Rum, Baijiu, Allspice Dram, Pineapple & Orange Juices, and Falernum Syrup, garnished with a Dried Red Pineapple Chip

WrappedwithLovePineappleBaijuCocktail1

This was our favorite cocktail of the entire festival. It’s a tiki drink through and through — pineapple forward, dark rum throughout, and just so sweet and fruity.

The baijiu brings a unique element to the mix that sets it apart from a normal tiki drink and makes it unique for the festival. Overall, this was a fantastic cocktail that we will be returning to time and again through the end of the celebration.

*NEW* Grapefruit-Melon Wine Cocktail – $15.00

Sauvignon Blanc, Grapefruit Liqueur, Watermelon Purée, Rock Melon Syrup, and Lime Juice, garnished with skewered Grapes

This cocktail provided a peculiar insight into the similarity of flavor between Sauvignon Blanc and watermelon. We never really noticed the center of the Venn diagram of flavors between the two until we had this drink where it was on display. This is a great wine cocktail that’s more like a wine spritzer than a cocktail, honestly, and perfectly sweet for a warm spring day. It wasn’t our favorite cocktail at this booth, but that’s nothing against this drink itself; it’s only second by default.

The Lunar New Year festival is running from January 20 through February 15, 2023.

Which of the two new food booths is your favorite? Personally, we prefer Wrapped With Love, but be sure to share your thoughts with us on social media!
