Looking for a treat that’s both sweet and has a kick to it? That’s the promise of the new Sweet & Sour Churro we found at Cone 1 of the Cozy Cone Motel in Disney California Adventure. The big question is of course — does it hold to that promise? Well let’s have a taste together!

Sweet & Sour Churro – $6.29

Churro tossed in Salt & Lime-flavored sugar with sweet lime glaze

As we mentioned, this new churro is available at Cone 1 of the Cozy Cone Motel, located in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure. There’s been plenty of attempts at creative churros here, with some of the more recent examples being the Bananas Foster Churro and the Fruity Sugar Churro.

The churro is covered in white and blue sugar with white glaze atop. And my goodness, this thing was unpleasant. It’s certainly not the worst churro we’ve ever had, but definitely will be remembered as a flop. This is a churro version of lime tortilla chips, complete with salt. It uses the churro as a base in place of a tortilla chip, but it still evokes savory flavors with the lime and salt. Then the sweetness of the churro and the sugar it’s tossed in become off-putting and strange.

A savory churro might be something to explore down the road, and if it’s separated completely from the sweet factor it certainly could work. But to have sweet and savory together in a churro just comes off as unpleasant.
