Batuu, the distant planet at the center of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in the Disney Parks, will be featured in a Disney+ series for the first time ever. This will mark the first instance in which the planet has ever appeared in television or film media.
About “Young Jedi Adventures”
Set in the High Republic era, this particular show is notable for being the first of its kind in the “Star Wars” universe, with a concept specifically geared toward young audiences. Several fans have been excited by this prospect, finally having the potential opportunity to introduce their children to a beloved fandom with less intense but equally qualitative adventures. The story, as described in the press release, follows a group of Jedi younglings centuries before events witnessed in the prequel trilogy films “as they study the ways of the Force, explore the galaxy, help citizens and creatures in need, and learn valuable skills needed to become Jedi along the way.”
Elliot Bour serves as Supervising Director, with other notable directing work on “Elena of Avalor,” “Kronk’s New Groove,” and “Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo,” to name a few. Additionally, Michael Olson is functioning as showrunner, known for his work on “Puppy Dog Pals.” The cast of “Young Jedi Adventures” includes Jamaal Avery Jr. as youngling Kai Brightstar, Emma Berman as pilot/friend Nash Durango, Juliet Donenfeld as youngling Lys Solay, Dee Bradley Baker as youngling Nubs, Jonathan Lipow as droid RJ-83, and Piotr Michael as the eponymous Master Yoda.
Batuu Becomes a Bigger Part of the Star Wars Galaxy
Three of the new youngling characters — Kai, Lys, and Nubs —will visit Batuu in the show on an undisclosed journey.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the immersive themed land found at Disneyland Park in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. The mostly identical lands are truly gargantuan in scale, offering an expansive landscape to get lost in.
Batuu is the planet this land exists on, with jagged rocks, mysterious geological formations, mostly uninhabited terrain, with Black Spire Outpost serving as an oasis of civilization in an otherwise quiet world. Imagineer Scott Trowbridge describes Black Spire and Batuu in greater detail:
This used to be a vibrant trading port back in the old sub-lightspeed days, but now with advent of hyperspace, its prominence has kind of fallen and faded a little bit which has made it a great spot for those who didn’t want to be on that kind of mainstream path. The smugglers, the bounty hunters, the rogue adventurers looking to crew up, the people who don’t want to be found — basically all the interesting people.
With a heavily-detailed backdrop and element of storytelling within the space itself, Batuu is unique as a living, breathing Star Wars location that was specifically created for the parks. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance exemplifies the ambition, and the incorporation of this destination into the rest of Star Wars media will likely add more layers of character integration and depth.
