The first teaser trailer for “The Marvels” has been released. The “Captain Marvel” sequel will be in theaters on November 10, 2023.
Watch the teaser trailer below.
“The Marvels” will see Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan switch places due to their connected powers. This continues directly from the end of “Ms. Marvel” season one, when Kamala disappeared and Carol took her place. Zawe Ashton portrays a so-far unnamed villain. The first season of Ms. Marvel premiered on Disney+ on June 8, 2022.
For this installment in the series, the all-female superhero trio will star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel. Iman Vellani will reprise her role as Kamala Khan, and Teyonah Parris will return as Monica Rambeau.
Exclusive footage shown at D23 Expo last year featured not only the main characters, but also Nick Fury, Kamala’s family, and Goose the cat/Flerken.
Originally slated for a July release, “The Marvels” was delayed until November back in February.
“Captain Marvel” is a 2019 film based on Marvel Comics featuring the character Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 21st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, often referred to as the MCU. Set in 1995, the story follows Danvers as she becomes Captain Marvel after Earth is caught in a galactic war between two alien civilizations.
In “Ms. Marvel,” season one, Kamala Khan is the protagonist, and is shown to be a major fan of Captain Marvel. She is gifted a special family heirloom which changes her life forever. As a Muslim-American teenager growing up in Jersey City, she sometimes feels ostracized at school and home until she obtains super powers similar to the heroes she loves.
In the final end credits scene for “Ms. Marvel,” Captain Marvel appears in Kamala Khan’s bedroom. Kamala is shocked to see her hero standing in her room, and Carol Danvers is just as confused. The scene ends with a text crawl that teases Captain Marvel’s upcoming appearance in “The Marvels.”
Monica Rambeau was exposed to the energy of Wanda Maximoff’s hex, which gave her superpowers. She gained the ability to absorb and manipulate energy, as well as the ability to fly and phase through solid objects. Monica’s powers made her a powerful ally against Wanda, and as she is a strong hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is likely to play a significant role in the future. Created by writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita Jr., the character first appeared in “The Amazing Spider-Man Annual” #16 in October 1982.
In the mainstream Marvel Comics universe (Earth-616), Monica Rambeau is the first woman to use the name Captain Marvel. She was a close friend of Carol Danvers, who later took on the name Captain Marvel as well. The two women had a falling out after Carol returned from being lost in space for years. Carol was changed by her experiences, and she became more distant from Monica. Fans hope to see this relationship addressed within “The Marvels.”
Kamala Khan is an imaginative young woman and a fan of Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau. She looks up to them as role models and superheroes. Her character enjoys playing video games and writing fan-fiction, and she often uses her imagination to daydream about her favorite heroes. It isn’t until she is gifted a special heirloom that their paths cross in her life.
Once she realizes her ability, Kamala quickly becomes entangled in a secret world brimming with conflict and intrigue, of course featuring fan-favorite Marvel characters at its center.
