Disneyland Hosting Community Coffee Events to Pitch DisneylandForward Expansion Plans

After a public meeting last month, Disneyland Resort has announced more events throughout the summer and fall to pitch their long-term expansion plans to Anaheim residents, Orange County Register shared.

The initiative, known as DisneylandForward, hopes to update the 1990s Anaheim city planning and zoning guidelines to allow for Disneyland Resort to expand along its eastern and western edges. Possible projects are based on “Frozen,” “Tangled,” “Peter Pan,” “Zootopia,” “Toy Story,” and “Tron.” Of course, we’ve already seen lands and attractions based on these films at other Disney Parks around the world – not counting Peter Pan’s Flight, which already exists at Disneyland Park.

The following public DisneylandForward Community Coffee events are scheduled:

  • May 20, Ponderosa Park, 2100 S. Haster St.
  • June 3, Walnut Grove Park, 905 S. Anaheim Blvd.
  • June 10, Boysen Park, 951 S. State College Blvd.
  • July 8, Maxwell Park, 2655 W. Orange Ave.
  • July 22, Barton Park, 800 S. Agate St.
  • Aug. 12, Juarez Park, 841 S. Sunkist St.
  • Sept. 9, Pearson Park, 400 N. Harbor Blvd.
  • Oct. 14, Ronald Reagan Park, 945 S. Weir Canyon Rd.

Each event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

According to Disneyland Resort officials, the city of Anaheim is also conducting a public review and hearing process for the DisneylandForward project that will allow for public participation.

Thinking big and leading the way is both our legacy and our best path forward. Now is the time to be bold, to dream, to believe, and to lead! The world-renowned Disneyland Resort is poised to bring back jobs to our community as well as new entertainment and experiences to loyal fans and new audiences for generations to come.

Ken Potrock, President, Disneyland Resort

DisneylandForward is a multiyear public planning effort alongside the City of Anaheim. Its purpose is to update existing development approvals to allow Disney to meaningfully invest in Anaheim and meet the future entertainment demands.

On the official site, Disney states they are not seeking “any public funding for DisneylandForward, nor are we seeking additional square footage or hotel rooms beyond what is currently approved and allowed.” Instead, they hope to use DisneylandForward as a means to “update our existing approvals to allow for integrated development to be located and built on Disney properties.”

The Disneyland Resort has been a major economic driver for Anaheim for decades, and DisneylandForward is a way for Disney to continue to invest in the city and create jobs. The plan includes proposals for new hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues, as well as improvements to transportation and infrastructure.

DisneylandForward has the potential to transform the Disneyland Resort over time. The plan is being developed in collaboration with the City of Anaheim, and it is subject to public input.
