Dan Povenmire, co-creator of the Disney animated series “Phineas & Ferb” (and voice of Dr. Doofenshmirtz) recently received quite the exciting gift from Walt Disney Imagineering — a giant prop from the former Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure at EPCOT.
A Piece of World Showcase at Home
According to Povenmire, Walt Disney Imagineering reached out to him sometime in 2022 about receiving a massive statue of Dr. Doofenshmirtz once used for the interactive attraction experience that permanently ended in 2020.
He excitedly shared the news on his Twitter account, chronicling the arrival of Doofenshmirtz and the character’s installation.
The giant statue arrived for delivery in the back of an SUV, and a jubilant Povenmire placed the figure in his kitchen beside some of his Emmy awards.
There he is. He’s over my fridge! He was in the actual parks. This is a piece of Disney World in my house.
He then proceeded to voice Doofenshmirtz, announcing in the iconic voice that he would be taking over the entire top of the refrigerator.
Povenmire is a massive Disney Parks enthusiast, frequenting them and maintaining connections with high-profile Imagineers. Most recently, the entire crew of “Phineas & Ferb” spent a day at Disneyland, and when Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance broke down for the first time in his own experiences, he humorously decided to call Scott Trowbridge, a Senior Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering and friend from college who led much of the work for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
‘Phineas & Ferb’ and Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure
“Phineas & Ferb” is one of Disney Channel’s most successful animated franchises of all time, following the adventures of stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher during summer vacation. The series originally ran from 2007 to 2015, before two new seasons were ordered in 2023. It has received numerous Emmy awards, both Daytime and Primetime, spawning films, merchandise, live tours, and more.
Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure was an interactive experience for guests to become agents of the O.W.C.A. (Organization Without a Cool Acronym) and help Perry the Platypus defeat Dr. Doofenshmirtz throughout various country pavilions in EPCOT. Guests would register at one of five locations and utilize a F.O.N.E. (Field Operative Notification Equipment) to discover clues, answer questions, interact with sets, and receive rewards.
In later years, the experience became compatible with guest smartphones and was eventually incorporated into the Play Disney Parks app. While the Agent P experience replaced the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, this too was eventually replaced again by the DuckTales World Showcase Adventure — initially planned to debut in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic delayed its start until late 2022.
