Disneyland Park has announced that the iconic Peter Pan sequence will return as part of “Fantasmic!” when the nighttime spectacular makes its way back to the Rivers of America on May 24, 2024.
Peter Pan Sequence Returning to Fantasmic!
The Peter Pan scene was an original sequence in “Fantasmic!” when it debuted at Disneyland Park in 1992. It was replaced by a Pirates of the Caribbean scene as part of an extensive 2017 refurbishment. The original sequence, inspired by the 1953 Walt Disney-produced animated film “Peter Pan,” featured Peter and Wendy aboard Captain Hook’s pirate ship. Peter Pan and Captain Hook engaged in a daring swordfight atop the boat; the ship was followed by a Tick-Tock the Crocodile float.
According to Disney, the returning Peter Pan sequence will be accompanied in “Fantasmic!” by “new special effects” and “a thrilling new battle scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent.”
“Fantasmic!” has been on hiatus since April of 2023 after the iconic Maleficent dragon used in the climactic nightmare sequence caught fire during the show. The Maleficent dragon was completely destroyed by the fire. Similar fire effects were temporarily suspended at Disney Parks around the world while the fire was investigated. Six Disneyland Cast Members were treated for smoke inhalation but there were no serious injuries. Maleficent will not be in her dragon form during the new battle scene.

“Fantasmic!” is a nighttime spectacular that first debuted at Disneyland Park on May 13, 1992. The show stars Mickey Mouse as he explores the possibilities of his imagination, but the Disney Villains team up in an attempt to create an unstoppable nightmare for him. Featuring characters and music from Disney films, the show incorporates projections on screens of water, pyrotechnics, and both the Sailing Ship Columbia and Mark Twain Riverboat as they sail past guests on the Rivers of America.
