A longtime Disneyland Resort Magic Key holder has been barred from using his pass for a year after selling tickets online.

Disneyland Magic Key Holder Banned for eBay Sale

Andrew Rich, a Magic Key Holder from Spokane, Washington has been banned from using his annual pass for a year after selling a pair of tickets to Sweethearts’ Nite on eBay, according to the OC Register.

Rich states that he purchased the tickets as a Valentine’s Day gift for his wife, however, the couple tested positive for COVID-19 before the event. Rich ended up selling the tickets on eBay. “To ensure somebody would use the tickets, I offered them for sale at face value,” he told the OC Register. He has been a Disney Annual Passholder since the late 1990s.

Shortly after the sale, Disney discovered the transaction and Rich’s Maguc Key was suspended for a year, through January 24, 2025. Despite the suspension, the pass (he had the Believe tier of Magic Key) must still be paid in full, totaling $1,099.

The fine print on the Disneyland Resort website for special event tickets specifically notes, “Tickets are nonrefundable and may not be resold or transferred for commercial purposes […] No refunds will be given for any changes or cancellations due to inclement weather or otherwise.”

Believing the punishment was a “wildly out of scale response,” Rich has attempted to appeal the decision, contacting Disneyland’s Magic Key Revocation Team; President of Disneyland Resort, Ken Potrock; and Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, Josh D’Amaro. All have denied his appeal. He also reached out using the consumer advocacy group, Elliott Advocacy, to which Disney responded saying the decision would not be reversed.
