A new style is adorning Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen at the Disneyland Resort — part of the Downtown Disney district’s ongoing transformation.
The iconic saxophone entrance marquee from Jazz Kitchen’s opening in 2001 was removed earlier this month, and a more subdued, bright orange & pink logo now stands in its place.
The intent of this new theming and approach to design is to give the restaurant a cleaner look and atmosphere of “vibrant California energy” — as the Kitchen’s menu will also be receiving updates in accordance with this renewed vision. The official Disneyland website has its own description of these changes on the restaurant’s page:
Get ready for the updated Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio, which will spring to life over the next few weeks! Visitors can soon enjoy a fresh approach to the menu, incorporating a vibrant California energy while staying true to the heart of New Orleans. The restaurant’s express window, famed for offering beignets to-go, has closed for work to convert into Beignets Expressed.
New food will include the popular Pasta Jambalaya and Gumbo Ya-Ya, plus fresh riffs using coastal-inspired ingredients like the new open-faced Grilled Lobster BLT Po’ Boy, pictured above. Signature hand-crafted beignets will continue to be a staple, with an expanded menu including specialty glazed beignets that are dipped, drizzled and sprinkled in jazzy signature and seasonal flavor combinations.
Major Changes Coming to Downtown Disney
The Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort is currently undergoing a transformation which includes several new shops and restaurants on the way. The new spaces set to be constructed are inspired by the mid-century space age look which was incredibly popular in California during the 1950s and 60s.
We’ve heard about plenty of these new outlets thus far, such as the award-winning Din Tai Fung, which serves Chinese food including bao, wontons, and more. Other outlets on the way include the beloved Porto’s Bakery, and a new permanent home for Earl of Sandwich. Currently, the sandwich shop sits in the former home of La Brea Bakery, which will be the site of Porto’s in the near future.
All of this work on the resort’s entertainment, shopping, and dining hub is merely one portion of larger plans connected to the DisneylandForward initiative — a multi-year public planning effort alongside the City of Anaheim. Its stated purpose is to update existing development approvals to promote future expansion, development, and investment for Disney and Anaheim.
Aside from the artistic concept above, not too many details are available for the future of Disneyland yet, though plans are well into development, and a public informational meeting was held just a few weeks ago.
